I guess most of you would have heard of the news by now.

May all prayers be with them ...

As of now, 4 am (P.T.),
-- the deathtoll is about 40,000
-- death and missing, it is estimated at 75,000.

The impact of aftermath is also unknown, with worries about
epidemic, etc

JET Li, the action star, was in Maldives then.

He survived the Asian tsunami disaster with a minor injury to his foot. He injured his foot while protecting his daughter from tsunami waves that flooded his hotel. He struck his foot against a floating piece of furniture, a Hong Kong newspaper reported.

The stories from this tragedy are unimagineable... what a terrifying and sad event... our thoughts are with those who have been affected.

Also today, the announcement of Susan Sontag's passing. A very nice article at nytimes.com..

The tsunami is absolutely horrific. The death toll is beyond shocking.
The majority of people never saw it coming.

There's not much else to say. The relief should be coming from ALL countries because this is (as Colin Powell stated) "an international emergency".

Another sad time in history.

Truly devastating. Here's hoping that our media coverage lasts a bit longer than it did for the Iran earthquake (remember!) and doesn't look for a detour a few days from now.
