hengcs, thanks a lot! I had no idea that it came out already...and it's available for such a low price. Critics were raving about this one just a few weeks ago at Berlin where it won the prize as you mentioned. Have you seen it yet?

Why is the DVD out so soon?
Nowadays, a lot of China movies try to launch the DVD abt the same time as the movie so as to prevent pirated/bootleg copies.
;)

(1) DVDs from China are usually cheaper ...
e.g., Ke Ke Xi Li (The Mountain Patrol)
No one has watched it yet?

(2) Also, the DVDs tend to have NO (or little) extras,
it is basically just the movie.

I have NOT watched it ...
the DVD is just out at YesAsia today ... because it takes a while to ship from China to US ...

i have bought it ... i choose free delivery ... and it takes quite some time ... nowadays, USPS also refuses to put in my mailbox, though it is big enuf ... they would rather put the ORANGE piece of paper to ask me to collect ... sigh ... due to all these inefficiencies, I only manage to get it abt 2 weeks from the day i order ... SIGH ...

Thanks for the detailed post. Come to think of it, you're right about the piracy stuff as I've heard quite a bit about it also. It's really out-of-control in China.

What else did you buy with Peacock because at Yesasia you have to spend at least $39 in order to get free shipping? I'm asking because I want to know the other films out there worth buying.

-- CLEAN

I am also "betting" on the following ... not very sure ...
(maybe they are just "popular entertainment")

-- THE HIDDEN BLADE (aka Kakushi Ken Oni no Tsume)

Thanks for the reply, hengcs. I was perhaps more interested in some of the lesser known films than the ones you listed. I'm going to see Clean next week so it doesn't interest me although I might buy it if it turns out to be great. Let me know if you plan to buy any of them.

I'm very much interested in both Cafe Lumiere and Yamada's The Hidden Blade (I loved his previous film The Twilight Samurai), but look at the prices! I think Peacock (at only $5) is probably the one to buy for sure.

hengcs, thanks a lot for all the effort you've put into this. I got your e-mail also and I truly appreciate your help with the selections. I liked Breaking News quite a bit. Haven't seen the other two so I'll look into 'em.
