Excellent post. I especially like Chabrol's films like La Ceremonie in which the commentary on the bourgeoise is made explicit, while retaining genre elements to make it all go down easy. You highlight the right films (a good one not listed is Les Biches). I'm currently exploring the pleasure to be found in minor works like Ten Days' Wonder, Innocents with Dirty Hands, Nada.

On a different wavelength, I just saw the Hero trailer on MTV! I want so much for it to do well with the young who overrate Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger. August 27th at a theatre near you. Can't wait to watch it with a weekend audience.
