    Kino International

Dave Kehr has a new "Critic's Choice: New DVDs" column in the NYTimes today (March 4, 2008) about a Kino International "German Expressionism Collection" DVD issue inlcuding

    The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
    Warning Shadows
    Secrets of a Soul
    The Hands of Orlac

and as usual has some very smart observations to make about the period, the style, and the films and their interrelationships.

I've seen Caligari many times and love it. Kehr doesn't recommend Warning Shadows. Secrets of a Soul and The Hands of Orlac are new to dvd and now on my netflix queue. Will report back.

I wrote a capsule review of SECRETS OF SOUL. The dvd includes 31 screens of text and photos detailing the film's production history.
