This was a horror movie to me.
I'm not the biggest Woody Allen fan, but this was indeed a masterpiece.
Cate Blanchett plays Jasmine, a wealthy socialite who has a huge fall from grace but it's her own fault.
I took great glee in hating her character.
You know why? Because I know that "characters" like this exist in our world today- self-satisfied and arrogant bitches who look down on anyone and everyone and only look for upward mobility, only to be done in by their own "looking the other way" and ignorance/oblivion to the real world.

Cate Blanchett gets my vote for best actress working today. If Daniel Day-Lewis is the best male actor on the planet, then Blanchett is his female equal. I mean, you watch this woman's descent into insanity- you will be horrified. This is real cinema to me, and Woody Allen has made a truly disturbing movie, a real horrorshow. I'm amazed he wrote such a wild and intense movie. He even cast Andrew Dice Clay against type! And it works. Check this flick out and see something truly remarkable.
