    MENASHE (Joshua Z. Weinstein 2016)

A24 has announced the US theatrical release begins July 28, 2017.

This little charmer about a wayward bereaved father and his little boy, somewhat looked down on by the Orthodox community but full of love and good intentions, is one of the very few films acted in Yiddish in the past 70 years. It's well worth watching and one of ND/NF 2017's best offerings.

    The Metacritic rating is 81%.

    STRONG ISLAND (Yance Ford)

The powerful and elegantly constructed documentary memoir about an African American family torn apart by law enforcement and judicial injustice - was bought earlier by Netflix and now is coming out online (and in limited theatrical release) September 15, 2017.

It debuted at ND/NF 2017 and was reviewed here earlier (see link).

    WHHITE SUN (Depak Rauniyar 2016)

WHITE SUN getting limited US release in September (NYC and LA).

Deepak Raunivar's outstanding, beatific film will open Friday, September 6 in NY at The MoMA and Friday, September 29 in LA at The Laemmle Music Hall from KimStim Films. A superb, altogether unique examination of Napal, a nation whose citizens are at a crossroads, "White Sun is a delicately-observed, multi-generational story which will prove awards-bait at in the Oscar Foreign Language category. (I]Hollywood Reporter[/I]) -publicity from Alex Panagakis, Venice, California.
