TEHRAN: CITY OF LOVE (Ali Jaberansari 2018)
Debut by an Iranian filmmaker focuses on a body building champion, an overweight receptionist in a beauty salon, and a funeral singer, and takes its outlook not from Panahi, Kiarastomi, or Farhadi, but Kiarasmaaki or Roy Anderssen. Very in control of what he is doing.

An "American Masters" film coming to PBS. Largely narrated by Morrison herself talking into the camera, with lots of very good images to illustrate.

WALKING ON WATER (Andrey Paounov 2018)
A doc about Christo's Floating Piers project in Italy (2016) with his nephew Vladimir replacing the deceased Jeanne-Claude as second in command, and maybe not quite up to the level of the now also deceased Mayslies brothers, but related in style.

WE BELIEVE IN DINOSAURS (Clayton Brown, Monica Long Ross 2018)
In Kentucky, an Australian named Ken Ham has organized and raised money for a huge museum of Creationism and a giant "model" of Noah's Ark - to prove his Christian fundamentalist, young Earth creationist views are "true" and to mount a well-organized campaign to proselytize and organize the 38% of the US population that believes that God created humans in their present form less than 10,000 years ago and that the Bible is scientific truth. A handful of opponents are presented here as well as the big accomplishments of Ken Ham, who finds Kentucky fertile ground.

McBaine Documentary Feature Award Winner: Midnight Traveler Hassan Fazili (USA/Qatar/Canada/UK)The jury gave special attention to Suburban Birds as “a film that is all contradictions. It’s hypnotic and punk rock, languid and jerky. If that weren’t weird enough, it’s an art film made by a visionary with an engineering degree, and captures the atmosphere of a rapidly developing country that is currently swallowing independent voices in a metaphorical sinkhole.”

WINTER'S NIGHT/ 겨울밤에 (Jang Wu-jin 2018)
A delicate, partly surreal, wintry study of youth and age, a fifty-ish couple revisiting the site where they first fell in love, filled with disappointment and a sense of loss. I think, a great advance over his previous, second feture, which I reviewed at ND/NF 2017, and with a very rich performance by Seo Young-hwa.
