Robert Frank died Sept. 9, 2019, a month short of his ninety-fifth birthday.

This is a good time for everybody to try to see the two films about him I've reviewed here. But most of all, go to a library or a bookstore and peruse a copy of his The Americans, the most important American photography book of the twentieth century. Try to find a recent edition; it seems to be better printed lately. Or barring that, look up the photos online, where they have full tonal value - but you won't find all of them, so you'll get a very partial idea of the book.
