OLIVER SACKS IN OLIVER SACKS: HIS OWN LIFE

"Humanizing each of his patients". . ."Like a country doctor making house calls to the whole world"

This documentary opens Wednesday, Sept 23, 2020 in the Roxie Virtual Cinema, so anyone will be able to pay to view it. It slipped my mind, till now. It will be of great interest to all those interested in writing about neurology and the human mind and especially those who've read some of this man's essays and his popular and influential books. He was an extraordinarily brilliant, talented, empathic, troubled and repressed man who overcame his addiction to amphetamines by becoming deeply immersed in helping his neurological patients and doing his writing.

OLIVER SACKS: HIS OWN LIFE explores the life and work of the legendary neurologist and storyteller as he shares intimate details of his battles with drug addiction, homophobia, and a medical establishment that accepted his work only decades after the fact. Author of the seminal study 'The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat' and the subject of Penny Marshall’s film AWAKENINGS, Sacks was a fearless explorer of unknown mental worlds and a "a scientific navigator of the soul" who helped redefine our understanding of the brain and mind.
