James Cameron's Ghosts of the Abyss

I saw this IMAX film this week and I have mixed feelings.

    The Pro's: (only 1)***SPOILERS***

-stunning shots of areas of the Titanic wreck never seen

    The Con's:

    -Bill Paxton
-not letting the expert scientists really speak
    -Bill Paxton
-the 3-D vision (I didn't like it very much for this type of film-it worked brilliantly for the Cirque de Soleil)
    -Bill Paxton
-the lame associations with Sept. 11 (this film was shot when the attacks happened)
    -oh yeah, and Bill Paxton

    Boring

After a while the 3-D effects fade and the whole experience becomes rather boring. I did like Bill Paxton, though, because he brought a bit of the everyday man experience and using 3-D we get to experience a little of the reality of the adventure. But the editing and the rest of the script usually found in documentaries was missing. There is hope for virtual reality though and this is a step in the right direction...but it has a way to go yet.

    SFX

Yes, the special effects become tiresome by the half hour mark. I had to concentrate hard on differentiating between the "real" footage and the digital.

Also, shouldn't the "retrieving elwood" bits have been relegated to DVD extras? I wanted to see the ship! I don't care if multi-millionaire Cameron loses a camera! (whether it's expensive & state-of-the-art or not....)
