Looking forward to the Monica Vitti homage. I remember how much my father loved her.
Also the one with Franz Rogowski. It won't be Italian, but he is always an interesting actor.

A BRIGHTER TOMORROW/IL SOL DEL'AVVENIRE (Nanni Moretti 2023)
This film by the Italian auteur, a regular at Cannes and in the NIC series, features a central character who is a self-indulgent director planning a film - not very far from himself, though perhaps inspired by Fellini's 8 1/2. SCREEN DAILY credits Moretti as " "once again" having created "edgy comedy out of a process of self-therapy." Many of his friends and former cast members appear in a final parade, but this is unlikely to be a farewell. Part of this year's Open Roads: New Italian Cinema series in the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center.

ENEO (Pietro Castellitto 2023)
Sophomore film written, directed, and starring the son of famous actor-director Sergio Castellitto and included in competition at the Venice festival last year where his THE PREDATORS debut won a screenplay award a few years ago. It's about privileged young Romans who get involved in a dangerous drug deal just out of boredom. Flashy technique and ambitious set pieces make the film watchable. Again as in ADAGIO it's set in a Rome deovid of the usual landmarks. Included in this year's Open Roads series in Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center. Showtimes:
Tuesday, June 4 at 3:30pm
Thursday, June 6 at 6:00pm

MI FANNO MALE I CAPELLI (Roberta Torre 2023)

THERE'S STILL TOMORROW (Paola Cortellesi 2023)
The biggest movie of the festival. Made by and starring a prominent comedienne and singer, this black and white Neorealist style attack on patriarchy, set in 1946 in an impoverished postwar Rome, C'È SEMPRE DOMANI hits you over the head, yet is spot-on. It's also one of the ten most popular films of all time in Italy - and more than that, has become a teaching tool and an influence on legislation. Click on the title above for the Filmleaf review. Part of this year's upcoming version of the regular series, Open Roads: New Italian Cinema (May 30-June 6, 2024 shown at the Walter Reade Theater, Lincoln Center.
