COMANDANTE/THE WAR MACHINE (Edoardo De Angelis 2023)

True story of an Italian WWII submarine commander who set ethical values above those of war to rescue the survivors of an enemy vessel his crew had sunk makes for a tumultuous, odd, somewhat meandering tale. Good acting, cinematography, and always watchable Pierfrancesco Favino in he lead still don't quite make for a coherent and exciting action film. Felt as much like I was at the opera as at war. So, very Italian, and defiantly so.
