    SUBURBAN FURY (Robinson Devor 2024)

An interview with and artful portrait of Sara Jane Moore, who attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford in San Francisco in 1975 and served 32 years in prison for it; and it's also a free-ranging portrait of the radicalism of the seventies.

Premiere. It will also show soon at DOC Stories in San Francisco.

    EMILIA PÉREZ (Jacques Audiard 2024).

US theatrical release from Nov. 1 and now (Nov. 18) showing throughout the country Available on Netflix from Nov. 13.

On rewatching later (November 18), this time at home and keeping up much better with the bizarre plot line, I find the details fascinating, surely material for a mini-series, but still full of plausibility holes and still not emotionally involving. But if you're a cinephile who likes to keep up, watch it! But you also should see Anora, A Real Pain, and Conclave, also showing now - on the big screen. P.s. Stephanie Zacharek suggests in her recent review that with a repressive new administration coming we should give our support to a movie that's so warmly trans-accepting as this.

    QUEER ( Luca Guadagnino 2024)

This just out five days ago on VULTURE from Ira Silverberg, summarizes a Zoom interview with Guadagnino by this longtime friend and associate of William Burroughs and former lover of James Grauerholz, Burroughs' amanuensis - who eels as I do that Luca and Queer were a mismatch, and so was the casting of "a beefy daddy like Daniel Craig as the Burroughs character, William Lee." Why'd you make this film? Nov. 27, 2024
