I just saw the opening film at the European Union Film Festival- Italy's
Riding The Tiger.

I immediately checked the imdb to see if it was a comedy or not.
Thank god it was.

For about 30 minutes I thought I was seeing a serious drama/romance.

The leading man gets thrown in jail (I can't even remember why)
After years of suffering, he's got 18 days to being paroled.
A scuffle breaks out in his cell and guards take him away. (he is innocent)
The prison officials put him in another cell with 2 really BAD dudes. These two freaks are planning an escape.
Mr. leading man is told he is coming with them because he'll rat.
He pleads with them to let him go: "I've got a daughter! I'm out in 18 days!"
No. You will escape with us.
The trio escape, and the most twisted storyline unfolds.

I don't think I can convince you about the rest of the movie. It is so unplausible that all I can say is you have to have a real perverse sense of humour to enjoy it.

Ride the Tiger and ride a bizarro movie...
