After being on the tundra and visiting with the "city folks" in Barrow, Alaska and Winnipeg, Canada, I fully appreciated the setting in which this remarkable film action occurred. It may be futile to attempt to describe the sounds, waves and aroma of the Arctic silence. However, it is in such a setting that the film reached me, irrespective of the similarity of the story to ancient literature. For me, it was the story that communicated the people and the environment, rather than the reverse. I am most grateful to the Inuit artists for composing this visual poetry.
