2025 Awards season and the Oscars

2025 Awards season and the Oscars

This has to be separate from the year's TOP TEN LISTS thread. We begin with the Golden Globes. First here's a list of the main rounds of awards in he order they come:

    Key Awards & Their Significance:

Golden Globes: First major televised event, covering film and TV, often setting early trends.

Critics' Choice Awards: Voted on by film critics, offering early recognition for top films and performances.

Producers Guild Awards (PGA): The PGA Award for Best Picture is a strong predictor for the Best Picture Oscar.

Directors Guild Awards (DGA): The DGA winner for Outstanding Directorial Achievement often mirrors the Oscar winner for Best Director.

Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG): Voted by actors, the SAG Awards for Ensemble, Actor, and Actress are huge indicators due to the large overlap with Academy voters.

BAFTAs (British Academy Film Awards): Held close to the Oscars, they often show strong overlap in voting members and winners, making them a key bellwether.

Writers Guild Awards (WGA): Recognizes excellence in screenwriting, with winners often aligning with Oscar screenplay categories.

Why They Matter (The "Road to the Oscars"):
These awards, especially the guild and BAFTA awards, feature voters who are also Academy members, making their choices highly relevant for predicting Oscar outcomes, particularly for the "Big Five" categories (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay).
