My Big Fat Greek Wedding
review by Kris Williams of FilmBrats

After many attempts to break the female stereotype concerning movies of this caliber I still can't stop enjoying films like 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding.' I've found its best if I stop fighting it and just give in. Kind of like quick sand. So here I am writing to defend this film.

'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' is a simple story about an American Greek woman who grew up in a big fat Greek family and just can't seem to get things right. She's a smart funny girl who can't get a guy. Her problem of course is that she has frizzy hair and glasses and wears big sweaters. No one can get a man like that! So she fixes her hair, trims up and gets some contacts and she's on easy street USA or is she?

She falls in love all right. With a guy who's not Greek!!!! And that's when the problems start, but he loves her for who she is and it doesn't matter that he's not Greek and everything get straightened out and they live happily ever after. It's lame right? It's been done badly already a million times before. But I loved it! It was so funny! I mean, really I know the story isn't the most original thing out of Hollywood but it made me laugh so much. I mean, laugh out loud. Hard. If you just let yourself enjoy it and stop worrying about silly things like creative story lines, you'll love stuff like this. And isn't it more fun to like movies than wanting to walk out the whole time? I think so.

As a final thought, I'd like to say that my mother thoroughly enjoyed this film. In her words it was "really cute" so take that and do with it what you may.
